Want to see the book as we write it?
Want to help craft the ideas?
Give live feedback?
About what is inspiring?
And what is confusing?
Because we would love the help.
Cyd and I are diving into our next book at a writing retreat from Aug. 27 to Sept. 8.
And we want you to come with us and be part of the process. Yeah!!!
The Book:
Working Title: Lacking Nothing: Quieting an Anxious and Avoidant Faith by Attaching to God
What if the most powerful path to spiritual transformation is not learning about your personality profile, Myers–Briggs Type, or Enneagram number?
And what if it didn’t come through memorizing scripture, learning more theology, or reciting different prayers (even though those are all good things)?
What will jumpstart your spiritual transformation is understanding how our attachment strategies shape how we think and how we feel about others, ourselves, and God.
In Lacking Nothing: Quieting an Anxious and Avoidant Faith by Attaching to God, we explore how our early attachment relationships create distortions in our understanding about God, others, and the world. When we are unaware of these distorted defaults, we unconsciously live pulling others in or pushing them away, including God.
But when we become more aware of our attachment strategies, we can find new ways to attach to God as our good shepherd, who is always with, so that we find we are lacking nothing.
No problem, right?
(The above description is from our draft book proposal.)
We have a couple of podcast episodes (with transcripts) and posts that summarize a little bit of what we are up to:
The Process
STEP #1: This new-book-feedback process is for paid subscribers.
Why? Two reasons:
First, we want people who are invested in this project to give us creative and critical feedback, people who believe this kind of message is important. In a sense, we want to create a place for constructive feedback.
Second, Cyd and I can use the support, financially. Taking time away from other work to write a book is time that we AREN’T GETTING PAID. In many ways, this is a labor of love (and whatever financial return we might get once published will be pretty small).
STEP #2: We write / post sections of the book (in raw form).
Every day between Tuesday, August 29, and Friday, Sept. 8th we will post a section (that we will have just written/edited).
Beginning on the week of Sept. 11th, I will post one or two sections a week until we are finished with the book (probably through the end of the year).
STEP #3: You give us feedback (in the comments) about what is inspiring, thought-provoking, or confusing.
Then you read and give us feedback in the comments.
I know that some of you email me responses to my writing, but I would prefer if you opened the post and responded in the comments so that we can have them all in one place for easy access and so that others can see what you said and riff of it also.
Simple. Right.
Yes I am working on a pictorial about the book of Ezekiel. It doesn’t have a lot of writing but it will have 50 illustrations visually explaining each of the 48 chapters.
I actually really love the way you guys write. Don’t change anything. I am writing also and really considering my target audience. I am not writing about transformation but it is a topic that I am highly passionate about and interested in. Excited to see what both you are thinking about transformation and what it has to do with attachments. I am considering getting involved in leadership with a Christ based recovery group. Understanding the connection will be helpful for me personally and in leadership. Thanks!
